Famine Ships, Derry

The mural takes inspiration from the song “Famine ships” by Tommy Peoples.

The painting depicts an ordinary woman leaving a famine ship. She is painted in dull muted tones, her energy fading, her head hangs low. There is a grey circle at her stomach symbolising hunger and the scene around her is full of vibrant colours symbolising energy, life and a new land.
